4. Spiritual discipline and fasting

From sunrise to sunset, many devotees observed vrat, or fasting. Some ate only fruits and milk, while others read texts like the Sundara Kand, the part of the Ramayana that describes Hanuman’s valiant actions, or they just sat in total silence. It is thought that practicing this spiritual discipline can help people become more in tune with God and cleanse their bodies and minds.

This year, eco-friendly Hanuman Jayanti customs were promoted by a number of temples and communities. The planting of saplings in honour of Hanuman, who is also connected to nature and forests, the use of cloth bags in place of plastic ones, and biodegradable offerings were all encouraged.
