Delhi’s air quality has shown significant improvement as strong winds have helped reduce the city’s pollution. The Air Quality Index (AQI) has dropped to 161, providing much-needed relief to Delhi residents who had been facing hazardous pollution levels in recent days. This change offers a breath of fresh air for Delhiites, as the air has become somewhat more breathable.
What is the Current Air Quality in Delhi?
According to the latest reports, the AQI in Delhi stands at 161, which falls in the “moderate” category. This is a significant improvement from the hazardous pollution levels seen in recent days. The primary reason for this improvement is the winds, which have helped disperse the pollutants trapped in the atmosphere.
How Strong Winds Helped Improve the Situation?
The main reason for the drop in AQI is the strong winds that have been sweeping through Delhi. These winds have blown away the dense layer of smog that had been lingering over the city for days. This natural process has significantly reduced the concentration of harmful pollutants in the air, improving visibility and air quality.
What Does AQI 161 Mean for Delhi’s Residents?
With the AQI at 161, the air quality has moved from the “very poor” category to the “moderate” category. While this is a positive change, experts advise that people with respiratory issues, as well as vulnerable groups such as children and the elderly, should still take precautions, as there may still be some pollutants in the air. This is a relief compared to the hazardous AQI levels of 300+ that the city experienced earlier in the week.
Why Does Delhi Experience High Pollution Levels?
There are several reasons for high pollution levels in Delhi, including vehicle emissions, industrial activities, stubble burning in neighboring states, and construction dust. During the winter months, cool temperatures and calm winds trap the pollutants in the atmosphere, leading to a buildup of smog. However, the recent winds have cleared out this trapped pollution, providing relief.
