In the world of Indian stand-up comedy, crowd work segments often create viral moments. One such incident from a Pranit More show has sparked massive online debate. The clip, widely referred to as the “Rs 370 Biryani” controversy, led to a young Gurugram web developer losing his job.
What Happened at the Pranit More Show?
During a recent Pranit More show, comedian Pranit More interacted with the audience in a crowd-work segment. Himanshu Jangra, a 23-year-old web developer from Gurugram, came on stage and shared a personal dating story.
He mentioned spending around ₹370 on chicken biryani for a woman on a date. When she asked him to drop her home, he joked about needing to “vasool” (recover) his money — implying he expected physical intimacy in return for the expense. The audience laughed during the performance, and Pranit More even rewarded him with prize money, calling it “Peak Gurgaon content.”
A short clip of the exchange soon went viral on social media, triggering widespread criticism for promoting entitlement and undermining consent.
The Backlash and Professional Consequences
The video drew intense outrage online. Many viewers called the remarks misogynistic and reflective of a transactional approach to dating. Himanshu Jangra later issued a public apology and deactivated his social media accounts.
His employer, Starvik Design, a Gurugram-based social media and branding firm, terminated his employment. The company stated that the viral clip had damaged its reputation and led to a flood of complaints and messages that disrupted work.
Pranit More’s Response
Pranit More also faced backlash for laughing along and initially amplifying the moment. He later issued an apology, acknowledging it as poor judgment and removing the content from his platforms.
